Cats First Rescue

About Us

Covering Hereford, Ross-on-Wye, Monmouth and surrounding areas.

Our Mission

Our mission is simple: no cat left behind. We take in strays, abandoned pets and cats whose owners can no longer care for them. Working with a network of dedicated foster carers across Hereford, Ross-on-Wye and Monmouth, we give every cat the time, care and patience they need before matching them with their perfect forever home.

Our Values

  • Cats come first, always.
  • We never put a healthy cat to sleep.
  • Every cat is vet checked, vaccinated, microchipped and neutered.
  • We match cats to homes, not homes to cats.
  • We support our fosterers and adopters for life.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does fostering involve?

You provide a safe, loving temporary home for a rescue cat until they are ready for adoption. We cover all food, litter and veterinary costs — you provide the space and the care.

How long does fostering last?

It varies from a couple of weeks to a few months, depending on the cat's needs. We'll always be upfront about the expected timescale, and we work around your availability.

Do I need experience to foster?

No — enthusiasm and patience matter most. Our foster coordinator will guide you through everything, and support is always a phone call away.

Can I foster if I rent my home?

Yes, as long as you have your landlord's written permission to keep a cat. We'll ask about this on the application form.

Can I foster if I have children or other pets?

Often, yes! We carefully match cats to households — some cats love busy family homes, while others need a quieter environment.

What if I fall in love with my foster cat?

It happens a lot! Foster carers are welcome to apply to adopt their foster cat — we call it a 'foster fail', and it's our favourite kind of failure.
